Republicans are unveiling a bill (Trumpcare) to make deep cuts in Medicaid and end the law’s Obamacare mandate that says that most Americans need to have health insurance.

We want the president and Republican Senators to keep their word and provide a better plan than Obamacare or at least have a plan with the same benefits but at a lower price.  Despite their promises this new plan will leave many people without insurance because of the high prices, older people will be charged more just because of their age, people with preexisting conditions will also be charged much more and the ones that already pay health insurance will have only bare bones coverage compared to the original Obamacare plan.

The bill to authorize these changes was drafted in secret, as Republicans know many people will oppose it. It will likely come to the Senate floor in the next weeks. Congressman Beto O’Rourke from El Paso, TX has a better plan, to expand Medicare to all people. Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for people 65 years and older, this program has been a huge success accross the nation, so much that companies are lowering prices every year and improving their plan benefits. If this can be achieved with the population that uses healthcare the most imagine what can be done for the younger and healthier population.

At the end of the day the biggest problem it will be to decrease Medicaid funds and impact the population that needs medical care the most, children and the older Medicare population (people 65 years and older) that rely on it and the Medicare Program has been proven an exemplary success as it functioning right now. We need a good plan not a bandaid that will privide temporary minimum relief and not consider as a goal the real improvement of healthcare coverage for all our citizens.
